Day 1: Sunrise above the Borobudur Temple – Borobudur visit - Art Museum
Enjoy a beautiful sunrise above the Borobudur with the temple complex lying deep in the valley. An unforgettable view. Next you’ll visit the “Chicken Church” known for its unique architecture set high in a hill. Spend some quiet time inside before going on to Borobudur.
The Borobudur in all its splendor you will experience with a guided tour of your knowledgeable tour guide. He introduces you to the importance of reliefs and stupas. Then drive to Magelang to an art museum. The owner has a unique art collection. If he is present, he will lead you personally through the exhibition. Return to Yogya.
Day 2: Lecture about the art development in Indonesia – Artist talk
Today you go directly to an artist’s studio. You’ll get an introduction to Indonesian art history. You also have the opportunity to look around the studio and discuss with the artist about his works. In the surrounding area there are some traditional handicraft villages, such as: Ceramics, leatherwork, batik on wood, silver workshops, etc. Depending on your interest, you can look at some of these craft studios.
Day 3: Artist’s studio - Javanese dance – Shadow play performance
In the morning drive to an art studio to meet the artist and see his work. You will get a professional guidance through the entire studio. Talk with the artist about his life and work. Later in the afternoon you can sample the graceful movements of a Javanese dance. In the night you will have the opportunity to watch traditional Indonesian performing art. Enjoy a leather puppet performance.
