Day 1: Yogyakarta – Babadan – Mt Merapi
Night transfer (your customers will be picked-up at their hotel at approx. 2 am) to Babadan, a small village on the western slopes of Mt Merapi (2,930 m), where lies a volcanic observatory that you’ll visit prior to climbing the volcano. At approx. 5 am, you’ll start hiking along a strenuous path that crosses plantations first, then volcanic sand & rocks, along the 1998 lava flows. After a 5-6hrs climb, you’ll reach the summit and your hiking guide will delight you with a great picnic lunch. In the afternoon, you’ll start climbing down to Selo, on the volcano’s northern slopes, where you’ll stay overnight at Jiwa Quest Lodges.
 

Day 2: Selo – Mt Merbabu – Selo – Slopes of Mt Lawu
At approx. 1 am, you’ll start climbing Mt Merbabu (3,145 m), an extinct volcano that’s famous for its five calderas. You’ll then reach the southern ridge of its huge crater before sunrise, which will notably offer an amazing view over Mt Merapi. After a quick breakfast at the summit, you’ll start climbing down back to the hotel. Transfer to the slopes of Mt Lawu in the afternoon. Overnight at Sukuh Cottages.

3 hours transfer – 6 hours walking

Day 3: Sukuh Temple – Tawangmangu - Solo
Morning transfer to Sukuh temple, the last Hindu stronghold to resist the spread of Islam in Central Java. The distinctive iconography of this temple, such as phallic figures and a large tortoise-shaped altar, supposes the existence of initiation or even orgiastic rituals. After visiting the temple, you’ll start walking toward the village of Tawangmangu, located on the western slopes of Mt Lawu. The scenic country road passes through pine forests and hillside plantations offering marvelous views of the surroundings. You’ll also hike by the Grojogan Sewu waterfall, located in a tropical forest and inhabited by a large tribe of monkeys. In the afternoon, transfer to Solo, where you’ll be able to visit its famous antic market. Overnight at Rumah Turi.

Uphill: 400m / Downhill: 300m

Day 4: Solo - Yogyakarta

Morning visit to the Sultan palace as well as the Batik market. Transfer to Yogyakarta in the afternoon. End of our services.

Good physical condition is required for this trip. Those who usually enjoy long walks, close to nature and the physical challenge of the demanding landscapes will absolutely be delighted.
