Centuries of traditional batik and weaving techniques - Cultural Experiences
3 Days/2 Nights
Day 1: City Tour – Weaving factory – Batik gallery
The city of Jogjakarta, standing between tradition and modernity, opens its doors for you this morning. Next to the Sultan's Palace and the King's Mosque, visit the main Market Beringharjo with an infinite number of fabrics and batiks sold. After visiting the Sultan’s Palace or Kraton, visit an old-fashioned weaving mill, producing beautiful fabrics with ancient looms which have secured a place in the modern age. Later you’ll have the opportunity to get acquainted with the art of the creative batik artists in the old town who do mostly batic paintings.
Day 2: Visit a Batik factory - Batik Course - Ratu Boko Palace
In a batik factory, you’ll learn more about the various types of batik crafts. Afterwards, try to create a piece of fabric by yourself that you can take back home as a nice memory.
In the late afternoon drive to the Ratu Boko Palace, explore with your experienced tour guide the vast complex. Finish off your busy day with a great sunset and some drinks and snacks – enjoying the view of the Prambanan temple complex and maybe even the Merapi and Merbabu volcanoes standing in the background.
Day 3: View point - Visit a weaving mill and the attached center – Hike
To escape the midday heat, you’ll be driving to the edge of a mountain range early in the morning. Drive to a Catholic center with an old-fashioned weaving mill and old Dutch looms. Afterwards visit the extraordinary church and the attached hospital or the orphanage. Later it is possible to walk about 2.5 hours along a river, pass farmhouses, a school and cemeteries. Stop at a peasant’s family. Return to Jogja.
